Forest gives you the ability to control who can see certain ideas or content. This feature helps protect sensitive information and ensures that only the right people have access when a higher level of privacy is needed.
By default, most ideas are visible broadly within Forest, but with Visibility Settings, you can narrow down access to just your workspace or team.
Who Can Set Visibility?
Admins – Always able to manage and adjust visibility for any content.
Idea Creators – Can control visibility for the ideas they submit.
Visibility Options
When editing an idea’s settings, you’ll see three visibility options:
Public to the whole company – Anyone in your organization can see the idea.
Workspace only – Only members of the specific workspace can see the idea. A workspace is typically aligned with a business unit or operating company, so selecting this option means all users associated with that workspace will have access.
Team only – Restricted to a designated team.
Note: Admins will always have access, regardless of the visibility setting.
How to Set Visibility
Follow these steps to adjust the visibility of an idea:
Navigate to the idea you want to update.
Click Manage Idea.
Select Edit.
Go to the Access tab.
Find the Visibility section.
Choose your desired option:
Public to the whole company
Workspace only
Team only
If selecting Team only, make sure the correct team is assigned so the right people have access.
Tip: Double-check your team assignment before saving to avoid accidental over- or under-sharing.
Why Use Visibility Settings?
Visibility settings are designed to help balance openness and confidentiality in Forest. While most ideas benefit from being shared widely, some content may need to be restricted—such as sensitive business strategies, early-stage experiments, or items intended for a specific group.
With visibility controls, you can:
Keep private information secure
Focus team discussions without distractions
Ensure compliance with internal sharing policies
Key Takeaways
Only Admins and Idea Creators can change visibility.
Admins always retain access, regardless of visibility.
Workspace visibility makes content available to all members of that workspace (business unit or operating company).
For Team only settings, confirm the correct team assignment to avoid visibility issues.
Use this feature whenever you need an additional layer of privacy around an idea.
